Every element of the wedding design influences the next—and the venue, season, and overall vibe should be determined before you select a dress. Florals, though, fall somewhere in between: They might influence the dress, or the dress might influence them.
Either way, they’re two peas in a pod. No matter which you choose first, they should feel aligned.
Here, we pair Grace + Ivory dresses with a few stunning floral styles by Chicago-based Colleen McGing of Flowers by Coll to get your mind going on how your dress and design might work together in the overall vision.
Classic with a Twist

“We took the essence of a classic white wedding and modernized it by layering in nuanced hues of green,” Colleen says. “Instead of a traditional foliage base, the foundation of this arrangement is composed of lush white and green hydrangeas, creating fullness and texture from the start.”
To mirror it, look for a wedding dress that’s classic—with a twist. Start with clean lines for a classic foundation, then add a showstopping detail, like the pretty peplum on our Poppy dress or the hand-beaded deco detailing of Elise. Each gives the dress a modern edge, much like the of-the-moment hanging amaranthus in Colleen’s arrangement.

Unabashedly Floral

Designs like this one—full of bold color and seasonal flowers in full bloom—allow the flowers to really take center stage, and your dress should follow suit. Lean into the theme with floral patterned lace, looks with off-white undertones to reflect the hues around you, and 3-D embellished dresses that seem to bloom of their own accord.
“Our inspiration for this arrangement was a spring sunset painted across the sky,” Colleen says. “We embraced a wide range of color to reflect the natural transition of hues as the light shifts from soft and airy to rich and vibrant.” Sound like the natural evolution of a perfect wedding day, too.

Whimsical Color

Floral design today is more than just flowers—arrangment are incorporating fruit, whimsical or sculptural vessels and vases, and extra adornments. Here, Colleen applied pearls to select white anthuriums throughout the arrangements to elevate the design and add a touch of romance.
If this is your vibe, play up pattern in your bridal look, too. Our Maeve and Betsey dresses are soft, whimsical, and romantic, made from oversized and laser-cut lace that showcases floral design in an overt way. A pearl-studded veil is the perfect foil for the adorned flowers, too, bringing the design full circle.

Modern Romance

The most modern floral design incorporates deep hues—think maroon, mauve, chocolate browns, and forest green—and textural details, and has just a little bit of unconventional edge. This arrangement by Colleen—featuring strawberry hydrangeas, green huckleberry, terracotta lisianthus and chocolate Queen Anne’s lace—checks every box.
We’re seeing texture and edgy details across fashion too. Our Liana dress gives texture to classic silk tulle through all-over ruching; Rani has hand-beaded pearl detailing and the perfect drape. If clean line are more your vibe, look for fashion-forward details, like the sharp cateye neckline on Toni, to pair with florals like these.
