Described as not simply a “black-tie” event that is equal parts traditional and bold...The Big Fake Wedding DC 2021 definitely wow’ed. They took us back to the basics with an event geared towards the modern couple who appreciates classic wedding elements with a sprinkle of artistic exploration. Incorporating shades of white and gray, interesting textures, jade, and more...this DC wedding gave us a party that was not only high style but timeless.
A wedding put on in the form of a vow renewal, The Big Fake Wedding is a great chance for local vendors to showcase their work. If you're not familiar with the event, check out their site here to see if a Big Fake Wedding is happening in a city near you. Think the edgiest and most unique wedding expo (vendors in action!) you'll ever attend.
But if you're a bride or groom more interested in getting classic wedding inspiration from your living room, we’ve got you covered. We’ll take a look back at some stunning highlights from the day to help you put together the ultimate classic wedding mood board.
The Venue: The International Spy Museum
A classic wedding style always pairs well with a museum venue or modern ballroom, and the International Spy Museum was no exception. Located in L'Enfant Plaza of Washington, DC, the venue is a non-profit museum that documents the trade craft, history, and contemporary role of espionage. But with its city view rooftop terrace and its ability to host between 150-700 guests...you won’t have to go undercover to have the wedding of your dreams.
The Invitations: Classic Wedding Code
With a venue like the International Spy Museum, it would be a crime to not include some clues of your own. Whether you want to see if your guests are up for a challenge with a message in Morse code...or keep it simple with a minimalist invitation...we have the perfect classic wedding inspiration from Paper Chaser Pittsburgh and Type A Invitations.
The Dress: A little Luxury
For classic bride Courtney, Grace + Ivory’s Melody gown was love at first site. Melody features all over luxurious crepe, with a combination of hand-placed lace appliques and Chantilly lace. Melody is a wedding gown that is simple and chic from the first look to her stunning details all down the back. She’s giving you illusion lace, off-the-shoulder details, the picturesque train... and did we mention the sleeves detach when it’s time to dance? You can even book the Melody gown here to try on at home.
The Glam: Classic & Chic
Nothing says classic bride more than a bridal bun from Four One Oh Salon. Adorned with lovely pearl and flower hair details from Vintage Stamp Jewels, this bun is anything but plain. For makeup, they decided on an understated bronze-y look paired with a light red lip. Classic bride Courtney is ready to strut down the aisle!
The Bridal Party: Pop The Champagne
Satins and silks are very on trend when it comes to bridesmaid's dresses this year. If you don't want your bride squad in a bold color, playing with textures and fabrics is a great way to still have your girls shine. At the Big Fake Wedding DC, the bridesmaid's wore dresses from BHLDN in a beautiful champagne. They paired it with black heels to match the groomsman and we loved the finished look.
The Florals: Classic Wedding Goals
When you think "classic wedding" you usually think white roses right? District Bloom Bar decided to craft together bridal bouquets that were anything but expected. They prove you can have the florals of your choice while not straying from your theme or vision.
The Decor: Jade & Gold
The vendors at this year's Big Fake Wedding DC definitely came to impress. With vintage glassware from Blooming Arrow Events and rentals from Blux Event Rentals, here's a variety of ways you can play with textures, greenery, and ambiance... a la candlesticks, chargers, and votives.
Cocktail Hour:
From mini pies, signature cocktails, and charcuterie cups...the samples at a Big Fake Wedding event is by far the best part. Take all the inspiration from these amazing eats and almost too pretty to drink, cocktails. The vendors who put it all together are, Happy Eatery Bakery, Cait's Cheese, and Creme De La Creme Bartenders.
Having your own Classic Wedding
Whatever your budget, the Big Fake Wedding is the perfect event to see vendors in action. It's one thing to scroll through their Instagrams but another to get up close and sometimes...taste. But we get it, you're busy, and may not have time or be able to drag your fiancé to an event. So feel free to save our highlights for your own classic wedding mood board. We, at Grace + Ivory, love being apart of such a unique event. Most of all, we love any chance to show off the amazing vendors that made it happen!
